The IFD tester is a benchtop, low-cost foam indentation force-deflection (IFD) tester. This IFD tester can also perform indentation load-deflection (ILD) testing. Both test methods are used to determine the hardness, stiffness, or load-bearing capacity of polyurethane foam. The tester can test samples up to 24 inches square and 8 inches thick. The tester uses a manually operated variable-speed DC motor with a speed adjustment range of 5.0 mm/s to 0.5 mm/s.
Standards:
Complies with the compression speed requirements specified in ASTM D3574-95. (This ASTM standard requires a test speed range of 3.3 mm/s to 0.83 mm/s).
Technical Specifications:
- The maximum load of the foam IFD tester is 1500 psi. The drive unit is mounted on a custom aluminum structure with a lower load-sensing platform topped with a ventilated top plate (ASTM compliant) for placing the test sample.
- This load-sensing platform is equipped with a digital force reading display.
- The foam contacts a supplied 203 mm diameter indenter, which is mounted on the power-driven actuator via a flexible pivot connection (ASTM compliant). Foam displacement is measured by a precision digital scale on the front of the machine.
- While tensile testing is not included in ASTM D3574. the foam IFD tester can perform tensile tests with optional configurations.
- The standard dimensions of the foam IFD tester (including the stroke of the DC power load unit) can be adjusted to your needs. Contact us for a quote on a standard design or custom equipment to meet your specific specifications. The tester comes with a load cell of your choice.
