The G238AA Manual Rubbing Color Fastness Tester is the most commonly used model in the textile industry for testing the color fastness of fabrics to dry and wet rubbing. Under specified conditions, the specimen is rubbed against a standard white cloth, and the degree of staining transferred to the white cloth is evaluated using a gray scale for staining. It is equipped with a crank arm, counter, stainless steel specimen holder, and test heads of 16 mm or 25 mm diameter (providing a vertical pressure of 9 N ±10%).

Application:
Suitable for evaluating rubbing color fastness in textiles, knitted fabrics, leather, electroplated metal plates, printing, and related industries.

Standards:
GB/T 3920

BS 1006 D02

ISO 105 D02 / X12

AATCC 8 / 165

NEXT TM6

M&S C8 / C8A

Accessories and Consumables:
(1) Friction cloth holder

(2) Standard abrasive paper

(3) Standard rubbing white cloth (AATCC/ISO)

(4) Standard rubbing white cloth (SDC)

(5) Calibration fabric

(6) Gray scale for staining (ISO/BS)

(7) Gray scale for staining (AATCC)

Test Procedure:
Specimen preparation:

(1) The specimen and standard rubbing white cloth shall be conditioned under standard temperature and humidity conditions.

(2) If the specimen contains multiple colors, all colors shall be rubbed.

(3) If the area of each color is sufficient, specimens shall be taken separately.

(4) Cut specimens for both dry and wet rubbing, ensuring all colors are tested.

(5) If the front and back sides differ in material or color, both sides shall be tested.

(6) Dry and wet rubbing tests shall not be conducted on the same area of the specimen.

Dry rubbing:

(1) Place the specimen flat on the tester covered with abrasive paper, aligning the length direction with the motion direction, and fix it with the holder.

(2) Fix the standard white cloth on the rubbing head using a spring clip, and gently place it on the specimen.

(3) Ensure no slipping or wrinkling occurs during rubbing.

(4) Place the rubbing head on the specimen, power on the instrument, and set the number of cycles.

(5) Press START to begin the test; the instrument stops automatically after reaching the set cycles.

(6) Remove the white cloth and evaluate staining using a gray scale.

Wet rubbing:

(1) Fully immerse the standard white cloth in distilled water.

(2) Remove and press it between filter papers to achieve a certain moisture content.

(3) Follow the same steps as in dry rubbing.

Result evaluation:

(1) Before evaluation, gently remove loose fibers from the white cloth using transparent adhesive tape.

(2) Place three layers of unused white cloth under the tested cloth and evaluate staining using the standard gray scale.

Test report:

(1) Report the test standard used

(2) Report results for dry and wet rubbing separately
