How to test the wear resistance of automotive leather interior materials?

As for the abrasion resistance test method for automotive leather, QINSUN engineers believe that the STROLL abrasion method, the TABER abrasion method and the Martindale abrasion method are all applicable.

1. TABER wear method

The American standard ASTM D 3884-2009 "Standard test method for abrasion resistance of textile fabrics (TABER apparatus)" specifies the TABER abrasion method. The test principle of the TABER wear method is as follows: the sample to be tested is placed on a rotating platform, and the two rolling friction wheels above it perform rotational friction motion with the sample under a certain load to wear the sample. One friction wheel faces outward and the other friction wheel faces inward to rub the sample, forming a circular wear mark. The degree of wear of the specimens was evaluated visually after the specified number of rubs.

Operation process: Fix the sample face up on the rotating platform, and install the selected grinding wheel on the support rod. After selecting a suitable load, lower the support rod to make the grinding wheel contact the surface of the sample, connect and turn on the vacuuming device. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card according to GB/T 250-2008 "Color fastness test of textiles - Gray sample card for evaluating discoloration".

2. Martindale wear method

The Martindale abrasion method is often used in the abrasion resistance test and pilling evaluation of textiles. my country's national standard GB/T3903.16-2008 "Abrasion resistance of footwear uppers, linings and inner pads" stipulates the use of The Martindale method is a test method for testing shoe uppers, and it is also suitable for testing the abrasion resistance of automotive leather.

The specimens were rubbed against a standard rubbing fabric under constant pressure using the Martindale abrasion method. The relative motion of the Lissajous figure between the rubbing fabric and the sample produces friction in all directions. After completing the specified number of rubbing times, evaluate the damage degree of the sample.

3. STROLL wear method

The test principle of the STROLL abrasion method is that the test sample is placed on a gas-filled rubber diaphragm with constant air pressure, and the sample is rubbed with sandpaper with specified surface characteristics. The degree of wear of the specimens was evaluated visually after the specified number of rubs.

Steps:

1. Place the sample on the rubber film in a flat state, then place the sandpaper on the abrasive plate, and make the contact head connected by the sandpaper flush with the surface of the sandpaper.

2. Apply an air pressure of 28 kPa below the diaphragm and 454 g above the abrasive plate, and ensure that the control of the air pressure and the contact between the inflated sample and the loaded sandpaper are stable and balanced.

3. Start the instrument and test according to the number of rotations set by the counter. After the test, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the color change in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 "Textile Color Fastness Test - Gray Sample Card for Assessing Discoloration".
